My friends, the Old Soldier has some shocking but wonderful news to share with you. I have to admit that I’ve been mystified by what I felt was the very low numbers of visitors and page views that my little girlie magazine seemed to generate. I felt I had a good product. That I had a unique vision for a literary magazine for people who liked to read erotica.
That this was a blog published by a writer for other writers. That the PittsburghFlashFiction was an original, an online publication of commentary, pop culture and sex as art and entertainment.
So, the low numbers of visitors and page views had me baffled. I based the performance of this magazine on my Stats Page.
Well, here I was sitting at my workstation, listening to The Steelers on the radio and thinking that it was late and the blogging day had come to an end. So, before calling it a night I decided to explore my dashboard. There was one icon I had never clicked on. It was the Overview icon. I clicked on it.
What I saw was a page of stats (that included a world map and a graph) that I had never seen before. And after studying this page for several minutes I realized that this page included statistics that were not included on the Stats Page that I always used to judge the magazine’s traffic.
And there were the numbers for the month of August (and August isn’t even over yet): 3,638 visitors, 16,145 page views.
It became obvious to me that the vast majority of my readers did not show up on my Stats Page. And I didn’t have to guess about this fact. One of the icons on the Overview Page said that 95% of my visitors came directly to the site. I’m deducing that these visitors have signed up for some form of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) or this blog is a favorite site or something like that. Something that would not show up on my regular Stats Page.
I am stunned. Absolutely stunned.
3,638 visitors and 16,145 page views for August and it’s just the 21st of August!
I feel as if I’ve won the lottery. And in a way I have.
I want to thank all of you for your support and I promise I will continue in my efforts to publish a cutting edge online magazine of commentary, pop culture and sex as art and entertainment.
My friends, the Old Soldier salutes you!
