Lady Gaga has inspired me as an editor/publisher. Why?
She knows that in the business of entertainment, you have to know how to promote what you’re doing. In my case, creative writing and culture are not enough. Nudity and sex are two ways to get people to pay attention to the other great things that are in this magazine. (First you get people in the door. Then you hope they look around.)
Lady Gaga definitely knows how to promote herself.
She began her professional career as a singer and keyboard player in bars and small clubs in New York City. She was good; but the customers were having such a good time laughing and talking and eating and drinking that the customers paid her no attention until one night out of frustration she got up from her key board and took off all her clothes and sat back down to play and sing again.
The place went silent. Thus was born Lady Gaga. True story.
So now you know why there is so much female nudity and sex in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. And I model the magazine after Playboy Magazine. I once had a female reader leave a comment asking why there were no naked men in the magazine. The only thing I could tell her is that I had no interest in naked men. I mean that’s okay, isn’t it?
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
