Even if you get your BA, BFA or MFA in fiction writing, there is a good chance that you will not get a job writing.
You may get a job teaching. You may get a job proof reading. You may get a job editing. You may get a job delivering mail or stripping for a living. But your degree in fiction writing often times will not get you a job writing fiction.
That’s the reality.
Think I’m making things out to be worst than they actually are? Do your research. Check it out. When you find out I’m right, you’ll have a more realistic idea of what a degree in writing really means.
Don’t get a degree in writing because of some fantasy that you have about your degree making you a writer or getting you a job as a writer. Become a writer because you have no choice.
