The Old Soldier wrote this post in his pocket notebook as he sat at the bar in Armand’s in Little Italy in Pittsburgh today around 11:00 a.m. There are only three other customers in the place. Joe is behind the bar. We talk about the Pirates. On the other side of the big window, Liberty Avenue is bright and warm in the sunshine.
The magazine is always on my mind. I have enough flash fiction stories and poems for the rest of the year. So, submissions are closed until December; but as far as I know my little magazine is the best paying market (among little magazines) for flash fiction and poems on the Internet.
The struggle for more pageviews continues.
It’s comforting to know that I’m with a host now that will not shut down the magazine because of adult content; but I’m starting all over again. The magazine is really only one month old. The pageviews are the pageviews of a one-month-old blog.
Still, the magazine has a great deal going for it.
The Old Soldier won’t be at karaoke at Nico’s in Little Italy Saturday night. I’m going to wait a week or two until the college students start to return from summer vacation. Then karaoke should be rockin’ again, I hope.
I’m convinced that an online magazine of creative writing, culture and sex can find a large audience on the Internet. It’s just a matter of time.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Armand’s in Pittsburgh.
