I had no plans to buy a fish sandwich at Armand’s in Little Italy yesterday. Don’t get me wrong. Armand’s has a delicious fish sandwich and it’s huge. It also cost $12.00. I can feed myself for several days for $12.00. You can only get the large sandwich on Friday.
So I sat at the bar and drank beer and ate my fish sandwich.
Maybe treating myself to that fish sandwich was my subconscious way of celebrating Veterans Day even though it’s on Tuesday.
I don’t obsessively think about Vietnam like I use to. Vietnam for me is a fading memory. I’ve even stopped reading the excellent history of the Vietnam War that I have in my small, private library.
It does seem though that the United States has entered a new phase of war since the end of the Vietnam War. It seems that we are in an age of endless warfare and there’s really little any of us can do about it.
Endless warfare has become the world we live in.
