Being a new writer can be intoxicating. Oh, I haven’t forgotten what it was like to be a new writer. I was young, just back from Vietnam, the counter culture of the 60s was in full swing and I knew I didn’t want a regular 9-5 job.
What could I do?
I enrolled in the local community college here in Pittsburgh because I loved learning, I loved reading and I loved writing.
I would become a writer.
I never did make a living at writing. But as I went from job to job and girlfriend to girlfriend and college to college I did keep writing.
And because I kept writing I got my BA and MFA in fiction writing and my flash fiction stories started showing up in online publications. That made me happy; but the publications were not paying markets.
Then a local newspaper-type print publication that came out every week and that focused on local news and local culture began to publish my flash fiction and even paid me $30.00 for each story. For two years my work appeared in nearly every issue. The editor offered me a paying position as the fiction editor.
Finally, after around 40 years of writing I was a successful writer!
Before I could take up my new duties the publication folded. I took early retirement and became the sex blogger that I am today.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for Pittsburgh’s #1 girlie magazine of erotic flash fiction, nude female celebrities and the best gangbang stories on the Internet.
