I’m a heterosexual male. I grew up reading Hustler, Penthouse, Playboy and several other girlie magazines that started publication during my youth; but it was Playboy Magazine that was the standard that all other girlie magazines were measured against.
Playboy published fiction by award-winning writers with world-wide reputations and whose books you read in college. It published great investigative journalism; and it published in-depth interviews with the movers and shakes of all fields of endeavor, from Wall Street tycoons to Hollywood filmmakers to professional athletes and the heads of automobile companies to presidents of the United States. And it published glamor photos of nude women from college girls to top runway models to A-list Hollywood actresses. Needles to say, Playboy’s success as a girlie magazine spawned a countless number of imitators, most which have long since faded away.
Now I’m in the business of publishing a girlie magazine. It’s strictly an online girlie magazine.
My little girlie magazine, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, is a one-man operation. I have a minuscule budget. And I don’t have access to any movers and shakers.
What I do have is a vision for an online girlie magazine that is a showcase for the craft and art of flash fiction, a girlie magazine of commentary, pop culture, things Pittsburgh and sex as art and entertain.
And I have the commitment to work on this vision day after day after day…
