Hello hello hello, all my fans who live all over the world! You know who you are. Guy Hogan is my name and flash fiction is my game.
How’s everyone doing?
The Old Soldier is full of fighting spirit this morning. I think I’m finally getting the hang of this webmaster business. It’s about time after around ten years of blogging and several failed blogs.
You live and you learn.
The PittsburghFlashFiction in its present reincarnation is a self-hosted blog on a WordPress.org platform which means it won’t get shut down for adult content like my last two blogs were shut down. That’s a relief. I lost four years of content that I’ll never get back.
HostGator is my blog host. I pay HostGator $84.00 a year for technical support and to back up my data base and files. I also pay HostGator $15.00 a year for my domain name. HostGator has been decisive in helping me setup this website and keeping it online. HG is worth every penny I pay them.
I also use a WordPress plug-in to back up my database and to back up my files; and I plan to download my database and files onto discs as soon as possible.
I pay Verizon $11.00 a month for technical support for my Internet connection. And they are worth the money, too.
I’ve finally monetized the blog. There is an e-book that can be downloaded and I now belong to an affiliate program, Mr. Skin, that I feel comfortable with. It would really be nice to actually make a profit from the magazine, but I’m hoping to at least defray some of the costs of publishing the magazine. One reason why I decided to start publishing only one contributor a month was to defray some of the cost of publication, but I also wanted to keep the magazine a paying market.
The new format of changing the three featured posts from the archives that are on the front page several times a week allows me to take better advantage of the more than 800 posts that are on this website. There is a lot of good content in the archives.
All in all the Old Soldier is proud of his little girlie magazine. But I know the pursuit of excellence is a never-ending job. And I love my job.
My friends, the Old Soldier salutes you!
PS Feel free to leave a comment any time just to let me know how I’m doing.
