Summer has come with a vengeance to the City of Pittsburgh. All this week it has been muggy with the temperature in the 80s and 90s. Today will be no different. The city is under a heat advisory from noon to 8:00 p.m.
Hello, my brother and sister writers from all over the world! The Old Soldier will be at Nico’s in Little Italy on Saturday night for karaoke, but today after I put this post up I’m going to get my water bottle from the freezer of the refrigerator and make the 15-minute walk to Armand’s in Little Italy where I will sit in the air conditioning and drink a couple of large, cold draft beers.
I always have my small notepad in my back pocket. I usually place the pad and an ink pen on the bartop next to my beer in case an idea for the magazine comes to me. Usually, there are only a few customers in the bar between 10:00 a.m. and noon. Gale will probably be bartending, she’s my age, and Herman the owner will be there. I’ll talk with them, sip my beer, maybe watch what’s on television and watch Liberty Avenue through the big window up front.
I don’t have air conditioning in my apartment, but the two windows face in different directions and I can usually get a good cross breeze going. I also have a fan and a refrigerator full of ice water.
Weather this hot and this muggy always reminds me of Vietnam. This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
