Today I published “Night Shift” by Alexa Night. Got to love that name. It’s a great name for a woman who writes erotica. Alexa Night sounds like the name of one of Andy Warhol’s Superstars. But Alexa Night is not one of Andy’s Superstars. She’s one of my writers of erotica. Her story will be on the front page for several days. The story is a great example of erotic flash fiction. Be sure to check it out before it rotates into the Archives.
Hello hello hello, all my brother and sister readers and writers of erotica. The Old Soldier just came back from a nice walk on this sunny, mild (50s) day through Schenley Park. Schenley Park stretches between the campuses of the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. I came out of the park in South Oakland and I walked down Dawson Street and stood for a moment in front of the home Andy Warhol grew up in.
I can never get over the fact that there is nothing, not even a plaque, to indicate that 3252 use to be Andy Warhol’s home; but I always feel re-vitalized as a writer, an editor, a publisher and a webmaster when I see his old working-class home.
That Jack Kerouac was a wild man. It’s no wonder he died before the age of 50. He drank himself to death. The biography about Kerouac that I checked out of the public library several days ago is excellent. Kerouac was a great believer in automatic writing. Automatic writing is improvisational writing, just like the jazz that was the sound track of the beat generation. Automatic writing tries to mimic the flow of consciousness. It’s stream of consciousness writing. You pick a topic and just run with it. Gertrude Stein did the same thing.
Automatic writing really worked for Kerouac. It’s how he wrote On The Road.
