This letter is not addressed to the wanna-be writers among you. There is no shame in being a wanna-be writer. I was a wanna-be filmmaker. But like any other endeavor, life will weed out all of the wanna-be writers.
This letter is addressed to those of you who will stay with writing to the bitter end. I’ve lost loved ones, friends, jobs and girlfriends; but I still have writing.
And don’t kid yourself. A decision to write no matter what will bring with it unhappiness and pain.
But if you have talent, discipline, perseverance, the ability to learn and just a little bit of luck, writing has much to offer that is good. And the good will last you a life time.
My brother and sister writers, the Old Soldier salutes you!
