Hello, hello, hello, all you rock ‘n’ rollers! It’s a mostly cloudy day in Pittsburgh so far today. The high will be around 77 and there’s a 40% chance of rain. Yuck! Rainy weather keeps me indoors. I stayed indoors all day yesterday and most of the day before yesterday because of overcast, rainy weather. I crave sunshine! But I do try to turn my aversion to overcast, rainy days into a plus. I blog. I read. I explore YouTube.
And all of these things impact what I publish in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette in one way or another.
Whenever I’m stranded in my apartment I search YouTube for subjects of interest to me. In the past 48 hours I’ve punched up videos about movies based on the lives and the works of my two favorite authors. I’m happy to report that YouTube has some excellent documentaries on Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’ve watched two excellent versions of movies based on The Sun Also Rises (starring Tyrone Power and Ava Gardner) and The Old Man And The Sea (staring Anthony Quinn). I’ve also watched an excellent documentary on F. Scott Fitzgerald. I’m looking forward to watching Beloved Infidel based on the life of Fitzgerald. That’s what I do when I’m stranded in my apartment. But don’t cry for me, Argentina. The sun is bound to return any day now.
Hail to Pitt!
This is Guy Hogan reporting from Pittsburgh. All photos of Anastasiya Scheglova used for this blog post were sampled from Egotastic All Stars. Don’t forget to checkout my book in the sidebar. The stories in the book got me accepted to the grad writing program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003 and won me a $60,000 fellowship that allowed me to finish my MFA in 2006. I think anyone with an interest in flash fiction for fun and profit should own what turned out to be my graduate thesis. Be sure to save the file.
