Autumn will officially arrive in the City of Pittsburgh on 22 September, but it’s already here. The changing of the seasons is one of the many things that the Old Soldier (Vietnam War) likes about Pittsburgh.
There are plenty of trees in the Oakland/Shadyside area of the city that I live in; and the leaves of the many trees have already begun to turn from green to yellow, brown and red. Autumn also makes me feel a little melancholy. Because of lost youth? Because of lost friends and relatives? I don’t know.
But this particular autumn brings with it first-class Penguins hockey, more Steelers football, Pitt Panthers football, a winning Pirates baseball team and a resurgent New Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. This autumn should be a good one.
Hello, my brother and sister bloggers, poets, readers and writers from all over the world! This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh on a sunny, crisp (60s) late morning from the city. The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs last night and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers football team easily beat the University of New Mexico team Saturday afternoon. Now sports fans in the city are bracing for the Steelers at Cincinnati on Monday Night Football.
The Old Soldier is about to take a stroll to Armand’s in Little Italy for a couple of beers and to shoot the breeze with Joe the bartender on this lovely autumn day. But before I go, I want to welcome you to my blog of stories, poetry and sex. Even though this blog is published in Pittsburgh, I accept good writing from all over the world. And although there are plenty of photos of naked women and content about sex, you will also find serious discussions on writing, art, culture and what it means to be a writer.
I like to think that this blog of flash fiction about the City of Pittsburgh is unique. Judge for yourself. The blog is updated nearly every day. And keep reading and keep writing that flash fiction.
