I don’t know about you, but to me beer, sunshine and creativity just seem to naturally go together. Or maybe the Old Soldier is a little slap-happy because the weather forecast today for Pittsburgh calls for plenty of sunshine and a high around 40 degrees.
You can’t beat that with a stick!
The Old Soldier is on duty at 7:30 a.m. this morning. I have to make hay while the sun shines, because the cold weather will be back on Monday. The high for Tuesday is suppose to be nine degrees.
The Old Soldier is going to stock up on supplies today. And that includes beer.
I enjoyed my visit to Sonny’s Tavern in Bloomfield (Little Italy) yesterday. It’s much closer to my apartment building than Armand’s is. To start with, it must have been happy hour or a special price or something because a sixteen ounce glass of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer (my favorite) was only $2.00. It’s usually $2.50, enough of a price difference to keep me a regular at Armand’s where the same draft is always $2.00.
I knew several of the patrons at Sonny’s. We got into a general discussion of how beer and karaoke go together because alcohol lowers inhibitions.
So here I am this morning thinking of beer, sunshine and creativity. Is that why so many of my favorite authors were drunks? Does alcohol hinder or stimulate a writer’s creativity?
Well, there’s no danger of the Old Soldier giving up beer; but the impact of alcohol on creativity is worthy of serious consideration. I know one thing. If it wasn’t for alcohol there might not be any karaoke. The Old Soldier won’t be going to karaoke tonight at Nico’s in Little Italy. I’ll try to make it next Saturday and then have a new report ready for you on karaoke as performance art later this month.
