Dateline Pittsburgh: 30 January 2017
I think my regular routine of being down in the lobby in the Wi-Fi Room of my apartment building an hour or more before dawn to work on the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is beginning to catch up with me for right now at noon back in my seedy but warm and comfortable apartment I’m quite content to relax stretched out on my back on the sofa with two pillows under my weary head and to doze off and on while listening to classical music low on the radio and to read the books I still have checked out from the library even though I’ve finished the biography of Frederick The Great I still have to finish reading the novel Desolation Angels by Jack Kerouac and the short story collection South Of No North by Charles Bukowski and the short story collection The Basil And Josephine Stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the novel This Side Of Paradise also by F. Scott Fitzgerald plus I’ve begun re-reading for the umpteenth time Break On Through, The Life and Death of Jim Morrison by James Riordan and Jerry Prochnicky and speaking of Jim Morrison on impulse a couple of days ago I added to the masthead three links to YouTube with one link being to a 45-minute video of the The Doors live in July of 1968 at The Hollywood Bowl and the other two links are to the studio records of The Doors doing Love Me Two Times and the long version of Light My Fire…
You know you can’t beat that with a stick!
After many years of reflection I’ve come to think if we have a real awareness of the preciousness of life and how finite it is that even the mundane details of everyday life have a certain value and I think this way of thinking about life can lead to The Philosophy of Everyday Experience for even though the vast majority of us will never be famous or rich I still believe the uneventful experience of daily living is worth recording and this is why I feel my blogging about the minutia of my own life has value especially within the context (that’s very important) of all of the other subjects covered by this blog so that the minutia is not just about providing original text for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette’s page ranking with the search engines…
The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a great place to watch Naked News videos. I’m constantly adding more Naked News videos with there being nearly 200 Naked News videos on this site already so if you want to check them out scan down the sidebar to Categories and the link to all the Naked News videos on this site is at the very top!
Now It’s around 2:00 p.m. and as I lay on my back on the sofa with two pillows under my weary head listening to classical music low on the radio and scribbling in my thick pocket notebook resting on my raised legs I can see through my two windows (the Venetian blinds are down but open and the windows point in different directions) sunlight and blue skies full of white fluffy clouds drifting by but I have no real inclination to leave my apartment until Wednesday when I’ll be back on my regular beat in Little Italy for the weather will remain in the 30s or maybe low 40s with occasional rain or snow the rest of the week…
Will I do any blogging during my ten days of leave during the first ten days of February? Oh it all depends on my state of mind…
It was late at night
Dreamed I was on a journey
Following the sun
Yes it was 50 years ago this month that The Doors released their first album and first single (Break On Through) and as I prepare for karaoke at Sonny’s Tavern the first Sunday night of February with deep breathing, flexibility and stretching exercises (the pain in my back is gone) and by listening over and over and over again to the songs by The Doors on YouTube I plan to sing I hope there will be a good size and appreciative karaoke crowd on hand and if the weather co-operates and if Sonny’s gets a crowd for the Super Bowl (Sonny’s has two television sets) maybe some of the people who come for the Super Bowl will stay for karaoke…
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl we couldn’t get much higher
Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience deceptive, judgement difficult.
