Christmas 2013 is only a few days away. Are you a writer? What do you want as a writer for Christmas? Recognition? Publication? A paying market? Maybe the Old Soldier can help you.
It’s cold in Pittsburgh. Like 30 degrees. The winds blowing. The Old Soldier just came back from Little Italy with a few groceries and a six-pack of beer.
I stopped at Armand’s. It was around 11:00 a.m. and there were only two other customers in the bar. I sat on a high stool at the bar down by the front window and I stared out at chilly Liberty Avenue. Vehicular traffic went back and forth, but there were hardly any pedestrians out. Too cold. I had a bus schedule with me. I didn’t want to walk the twenty minutes back to my apartment.
What can the Old Soldier do for writers for Christmas? How about some insights on how to get published in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette?
Well, a writer should always familiarize himself or herself with the publication he or she intends to submit work to. No matter how often this fact is stated, writers still submit stories that are totally inappropriate for this magazine.
This magazine is a paying market; but it is not a market for writers who have not mastered the basics of grammar, punctuation and spelling.
It’s a market for writers who read and follow the submission guidelines. It is a market for writers who view flash fiction, and especially erotic flash fiction, as a legitimate art form. It is a market for writers who want a paying gig year round.
The submissions tab is in the sidebar. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
