Good morning good morning good morning everybody everywhere or at least it’s morning here in the city of Pittsburgh! This is your Baby Boomer Papa reporting for duty on what is so far an overcast day in Pittsburgh and the weather forecast calls for the city to reach a high of 56 degrees today which is fine with me because I’m tired of freezing my ass off even though Pittsburgh is my hometown and I know what to expect from a winter in Pittsburgh. That doesn’t mean I have to like it. I’m afraid I’ve gotten too old for the winters of my hometown. I don’t bounce as well as I use to. But hey I’m not going to leave Pittsburgh either so go figure…
I’ve recently gotten into a new routine which consist of blogging as soon as I get up in the morning and doing a little twitting and re-twitting and reading the online news outlets that I follow and then doing my deep breathing and flexibility and stretching exercises and then it’s a quick hot shower and I’m off to Armand’s in Little Italy to catch the news at noon on the television and to have a beer or two and to do some socializing and then it’s a quick walk back to my apartment to stop off along the way for a beer at Sonny’s Tavern and my work day is done…
The rest of my day is taken up with reading (once again I’m absorbing On The Road by Jack Kerouac and so far this month I’ve been able to keep plenty of beer in the refrigerator) or surfing the web or spot cleaning my apartment or doing laundry…In other words I’m just another retired Baby Boomer living alone and who is trying to be a successful full-time professional blogger. Blogging allows me to put to some use the MFA in fiction writing I got from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006 so I’m happy about that. My apartment building is about a fifteen-minute walk from campus. I can see the top floors of the Cathedral of Learning of the University of Pittsburgh from one of the second story windows of my living room/kitchenette when the leaves fall off the trees during the winter and during the summer I’m always walking around campus taking in the sights and sounds.
Everything and I do mean everything impacts what I put in this blog.
My hope is that my adventures and misadventures as a full-time professional blogger will give other bloggers some insights into what it’s like to be a blogger trying to turn a blog into an online business for I do think of the PFFG as a business and I try to run it as a business with a bottom line like any other business. So far this year the PFFG is projected to end the year in the black. I won’t know how much of a net profit it will produce for 2018 until much later in the year but a passion for blogging will only take you so far especially if your blog is costing you money. Of course, this is no secret. It’s just Blogging 101.
Hail to Pitt!
