The shorter a story is, the deeper it should be. Hello, my brother and sister readers and writers of erotic flash fiction from all over the world! It’s the Old Soldier here reporting for duty.
Much to my surprise, it’s snowing outside this morning. The weather forecast calls for the high to be in the 50s today. Go figure.
But this post is not about the weather. It’s about the craft of erotic flash fiction. It’s about adding depth to your story. It’s about making your story deeper. You want the action of your story to be greater than its individual parts.
So, how do you accomplish depth?
Well, what is your story really saying about sex? About life? Step back from your story and ask yourself, what is my vision?
Because whether we writers know it or not, our vision of life is implied by everything that we write. We as writers must become more conscious about what the fictional world of our erotica says about the human condition.
Is your erotica really about the futility of male/female relationships? Is your erotica really about accepting the people we care about for the way they are and not for the way we want them to be? Or is your erotica really saying we have to love ourselves first before we can love another?
I contend that a writer’s erotica becomes deeper as that writer becomes more conscious of his or her vision of the human condition.
How deep is your erotica?
