A deep freeze has hit Pittsburgh. I live in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. I’m retired. I don’t have to go outside. I went down to the lobby of my apartment building to check on my mail. There was no mail. I stood in the lobby at the big window and watched Centre Avenue for a few minutes. One pedestrian walked past.
I wondered if the mail carrier actually had to walk around in this deep freeze. The weather reports on the radio put the wind chill factor at minus thirty.
Hello, all my brother and sister readers and writers from all over the world! I hope you are not in a deep freeze; but warmer weather is on the way to Pittsburgh and in the mean time I have a new story, “Ninth Floor, Room Four,” by Anna Bayes for you to read. It will be on the front page for the rest of January.
Here’s a shout-out to the MFA fiction writing program at the University of Pittsburgh, the Old Soldier’s alma mater.
The Old Soldier has enough spaghetti and a meaty sauce to get him through the deep freeze. Then when the sauce is exhausted I have a package of turkey necks to throw into the crock pot. The deep freeze is actually supposed to start to break tomorrow with the high in the 20s. If the wind is not blowing too hard I may try to take my overdue book back to the public library; and then I’ll make a sortie into Little Italy.
It will be in the 40s Saturday night which means your intrepid reporter will be covering the karaoke scene at Nico’s in Little Italy.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
P.S. Be sure to check out all the great erotic flash fiction on this site.
