The environment has nearly reached the point where it can no longer recover from the billions of tons of poison that we humans are pumping into the atmosphere every year. This is the opinion of every credible environmental scientist on the planet no matter which side of the argument the warming of the earth the scientist is on.
Poison is poison.
Humans have been pumping poison into the atmosphere (and into the soil and water of the earth) on an industrial basis for at least two centuries now. Even a layman like the Old Soldier knows that something bad and irreversible is going to happen probably sooner than later. And once the environment hits the point of no return, the planet will no longer be able to support human life, certainly not on the present scale of human life. This is not an alarmist view. This is your basic Environment 101.
Rachel Carson said it all in Silent Spring. Silent Spring was the catalysis for the modern environmental movement, and if Rachel Carson were alive, I think she would be horrified and sadden that her warning was not enough to keep us from bringing to the verge of collapse the very environment that sustains us.Douglas’s review contributed to the success of Silent Spring, an important turning point for the environmental movement. Once the slide toward environmental oblivion picks up speed, there may be very little we can do to stop or reverse the slide in spite of our technological wizardry.
Hello, my brother and sister readers and writers from all over the world. This magazine is about writing, culture and sex as art and entertainment. But every so often, the Old Soldier has to use his humble magazine to shine a light on an issue that impacts all of us. The destruction of the environment is such an issue.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, an online magazine of erotica for men and women.
