Every writer of erotic flash fiction wants to write dialogue that sizzles with sexual desire. The problem is how to do it without making the reader feel that after all it’s only a short story. That you’re just making it all up.
Well, you certainly don’t want that. You want the reader to believe you know what you’re writing about. You want to write dialogue that screams you do know what you’re writing about.
If you want the sex in your erotic flash fiction to seem authentic, the actions of your characters must seem authentic. And dialogue is action. Dialogue is personality. Dialogue is the essence of the character speaking. I have a suggestion that may put a little more sizzle in your erotic dialogue.
Think of erotic dialogue as code. And just what is this code about? It’s about what is really going on inside your characters. This code hints at the hopes, fears, dreams, frustrations, fantasies and needs of your characters. Your erotic dialogue must give a peek into the internal landscape of your characters emotional lives. But only a peek. That’s important. The best erotic dialogue never gives more than a peek. You don’t want to reveal too much. You just want to reveal enough.
This is the kind of erotic dialogue that sizzles, because it’s the way real people talk. Especially when they’re in a sexual situation.
Oh, I’m not advocating that you eliminate the moans, groans and grunts of sexual pleasure. I’m just saying that when your characters talk, let them talk just like real people. Don’t make caricatures out of them. Don’t make them sexual athletes. I mean we are talking here about first-class erotica. The kind that is considered not just entertainment, but art, too.
So, don’t forget the hopes and the fears and the dreams and the frustrations and the fantasies and the needs of your characters when they talk even as they fuck themselves senseless.
Keep reading and keep writing that erotic flash fiction.
