Everybody wants to write and sale erotica. Well, maybe not everybody, let’s just say that a whole lot of folks would like to write and sale erotica. The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction is committed to serving those writers who want to write and sale erotica.
The truth of the matter is, everybody can’t write and sale erotica anymore than everybody can write and sale stories about crime or espionage. First you must have the inclination to write and sale erotica and everybody doesn’t have that inclination.
Let’s substitute the word “passion” for inclination.
So this commentary is directed to everybody who wants to write erotica, who has a passion for writing erotica. Needless to say, wanting to write erotica and actually writing it are two different things. You can have a passion for singing rock ‘n’ roll. That doesn’t mean you have the talent to do it.
I’ve been the editor of this magazine, a paying market, for several years now. I’ve read a lot of erotic flash fiction submissions. So I know a little about how to sale erotica. Not a lot, but a little. The first thing I look for in a submission is craft. A writer must be serious about the craft of writing. And an editor can spot a faker a mile away. I may only pay $15.00 for erotic flash fiction, but it’s my $15.00 and I want my money’s worth; because I know if I get my money’s worth my readers are definitely going to get their money’s worth especially since an email subscription to this magazine is free.
So, we’ve hit upon two things that everybody who wants to write and sale erotica must have: a writer must be serious about the craft of writing and that writer must have a passion for writing erotica.
Craft and passion are not the only two things that a writer must have for writing success in any field; but without craft and passion success is nearly impossible.
