What a crazy wildcard game yesterday between the Steelers and the Bengals! It was an 8:00 pm game. Just before the game I went to visit one of my brothers, a younger brother who lives in an assisted living facility. He’s gaining weight like crazy because all he does is eat, sleep and watch television and I don’t know how to help him. The only time he leaves the facility is when he goes to see his doctor on a regular basis. So, I was in a contemplative mood as I walked from the facility to Armand’s in Little Italy.
The lights were down low. I’m usually not in Armand’s at night. A crowd began to drift in for the Steelers, Bengals game. On the television at my end of the bar was the Pitt, Notre Dame basket ball game which was a very good game and Pitt won. I had a beer and then got a 40 ounce bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon and walked home where I lay on the sofa with two pillows under my head as I listened to the game and sipped my beer.
The game was in Cincinnati and you could hear how vocal the crowd was. It went on and on and on until the crowd started throwing things at the Steelers. I had the lights down in the living room and I thought the crowd was going to rush the field. That’s how bad it got to be. There were not only fights on the field among the players, but fights in the stands, too. And then near the very end of the game with the Steelers losing and running out of time, the Bengals committed two unnecessary, foolish fouls that put the Steelers in field goal range to win the game. The Bengals just gave the game away.
The Steelers won 18-16 and as soon as time expired, Tomlin got the Steelers off the field and into the safety of the tunnel to their locker room…
Well, I’m going to putter around the apartment and then around noon I’ll stroll into Little Italy to see what’s going on at Armand’s.
This is Guy Hogan reporting from Pittsburgh.
Hail to Pitt!
