I’m usually broke by the middle of the month. Yesterday, I got some unexpected fun money. I went to Armand’s in Little Italy, but there was not an empty seat at the bar. It was a Friday afternoon and Armand’s is known for its huge fish sandwich. I didn’t stay.
I ended up at Sonny’s Tavern which is just two blocks from my apartment building. I don’t go to Sonny’s because the beer is cheaper at Armand’s and there is no window to see outside at Sonny’s. And anyway, there is very little foot traffic where Sonny’s is located. I had a beer and got a six-pack to go.
Today, I got to Armand’s around 10:30 a.m. There was only one other customer in the place. The bartender put NCIS on the television at my end of the bar for me and I watched the show and drank a can of beer and ate a bag of peanuts and thought deep thoughts about life and writing. It’s a sunny day in The ‘Burgh today, the high around 65! Women were out in full force on Liberty Avenue in their yoga pants. I sat on my stool at the window and enjoyed all the women walking and jogging in their yoga pants.
I watched the women and I thought about the songs I’m going to do for karaoke at Nico’s in Little Italy the first Saturday night in March and I thought about how well The Gazette is doing. It’s averaging 742 page views every day for February 2016 so far. I thought about how lucky I was to be retired and to have no aches or pains for a man my age. I thought about how I would have more fun money in about a week.
I got a 40 ounce bottle of beer to go.
