The Old Soldier paid a visit to the Original Oyster House in downtown Pittsburgh today. Yes, I haven’t been there in years; and things have changed. The Original Oyster House was always known for its working-class atmosphere of buttermilk, fish sandwiches, crab and oyster cakes, beer and the photos on the walls of celebrity athletes and politicians from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. I mean the place has been around since 1875; so we can throw in a few chorus girls and Miss America Pageants, too.
But when I walked into the place I walked into the new extension. I thought I had walked into a slick fast-food restaurant. But a kindly counter person escorted the Old Soldier behind the counter and through a door and bam! The old Original Oyster House sprang before my eyeballs.
I had an Iron City Beer draft and a crab cake. It rocked me for $7.00. The memories made it worth it.

This is the Old Soldier reporting for the PittsburghFlashFiction, a girlie magazine of erotic flash fiction, culture and sex as art and entertainment.
I need to find a niche for my girlie magazine. I have to make it interesting and I have to make it an original, like the Original Oyster House. That is the only way the magazine will survive.–Guy Hogan
