Hello hello hello, fans of girlie magazines who live all over the world! Guy Hogan is my name and flash fiction is my game.
How’s everyone doing?
The Old Soldier is doing fine. I got no aches or pains and I edit and publish Pittsburgh’s premiere online girlie magazine. What’s it like to edit and publish an online girlie magazine?
Well, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is a self-hosted blog; which means I blog on a platform (WordPress.org) that I have to pay someone else to host it, but which allows my blog to contain adult content. This is decisive. I use to use a blogging platform (WordPress.com) that did not allow adult content (my bad). I was shut down twice and lost around four years of content.
You live and you learn…
Now I pay HostGator to host the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette and I get 24/7 telephone support. Yeah! Talk to a real person. This is what I pay every year to HostGator.
- Primary Domain $83.40

Many bloggers dream of making money from their blogs (books, seminars, affiliate advertising programs…). I have the same dream, especially since this blog is costing me money and I have a very limited income from social security and two pensions all based on a life time of low-wage jobs. I’m an educated (MFA) bum.
But since the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is considered to be a porn site, no reputable (Google) advertising network wants anything to do with me. I was lucky to find the Mr.Skin/Naked News affiliate program.
Mr. Skin has been cataloguing every nude scene of every actress that every did one on television or in the movies for over ten years. Naked News is a site out of Canada. All its reporters are women who strip in the studio or hit the streets topless to cover the news. I forget what city in Canada has an ordinance that says women can go topless in public, but the site is in that city. Naked News has been around for years, too.
Not only did Mr. Skin/Naked News fit in perfectly with my little girlie magazine, but the company produces an excellent product and its record as a professional organization (paying its affiliates on time) is impeccable.
You know you can’t beat that with a stick!
Finally, I like to publish a new story by a contributor every month. I pay $30.00 a story. That’s $360 every year folks!
Well, the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, after several years of very painful growing pains, is now a going concern. It gets around 8,000 visitors and 25,000 page views every month. And I expect to get my first check ($55) from Mr.Skin/Naked News next week (back to Armand’s in Little Italy).
My little girlie magazine is no longer a hobby. It’s now a real business.
Today in Pittsburgh it will be sunny with a high in the 80s.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
