No one else is living your life, but you. I know that’s an awkward sentence, but there is a lot of truth in the sentence. No one else experiences the pain and joy of life just the way you do.
This is what the Old Soldier is getting at. When you write flash fiction, tap into your life experiences. Build your fiction on your interests. Tap into the relationships that have formed your life. Write about the area you live in.
I’m not saying to make your flash fiction about these things. You still have to tell a story. I’m saying that you can use your unique life story to “flavor” your flash fiction.
Because the more flavoring you can bring to your flash fiction, the more distinctive your flash fiction will be. The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is an online magazine of creative writing, culture and sex.
