If this isn’t the strangest weather. Today it will be a sunny day in The ‘Burgh with a high around 63. Only a Pittsburgher over 40 understands how weird this weather is for the city in December. The high will be around 60 for the next couple of days. No snow for Christmas.
My brother paid me a surprise visit last night. He lives in California. He’s recently retired and he’s staying with my older sister (the new matriarch) in Greensburg, a community outside of Pittsburgh. I’ve never been to her and her husband’s home, but everybody says it’s very nice. Our mother stayed there the last 15 or so years of her life. My brother brought me a Christmas present, a six-pack of Budweiser (bottles). I’m the poorest member of the family. So my family gives me gifts (money, beer…). I’m very appreciative, but it is embarrassing; but there isn’t much I can do about it. I don’t make long distance phone calls because if I did I wouldn’t be able to pay my phone bill. I’ve long ago accepted the fact of my poverty. I don’t own a car; although I have a driver’s license (just in case).
I showed my brother The Gazette. He was very impressed at how professional it looks. Yes, it really is a magazine. He knows about The Gazette, but he doesn’t follow it. So last night is the first time he’s seen it in maybe a year. He watched a Naked News sports report. He said he would go with me to Saturday night karaoke at Nico’s in Little Italy if Nico’s is going to have karaoke the day after New Year’s Day.
Well, that’s all I have to report right now. I have beer in the refrigerator (I already had a six-pack before my brother’s gift). If I go to Armand’s in Little Italy today, it will be to just have a beer or two. I have plenty of beer at home.
This is Guy Hogan reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, the City of Pittsburgh’s only magazine of commentaries, culture, movie reviews, sexy stories and topless women.
Hail to Pitt!
