Many bar owners come to the conclusion that hiring a karaoke DJ is cheaper than hiring a live band.
I was listening to KQV, the local all-news radio station yesterday, when the announcer said that many bands trying to make a living and a name for themselves the old fashion way (by playing in bars) are finding that karaoke has replaced them.
A band may have four or five members with all their equipment. One person can handle the karaoke setup (a tablet computer, a couple of cables and two small speakers). The quality of the music of a live band depends on several factors. Karaoke music is always note perfect. Often times the audience for a band will just sit while a karaoke audience participates in its own entertainment.
And you can’t beat that with a stick!
Of course, some bars are more karaoke friendly than other bars. I’ve been to karaoke at bars in Little Italy here in Pittsburgh where the lights were too bright and the bar was too small. Sometimes a bar would have several televisions on while karaoke was going on. And even though the televisions were on mute, the message to a karaoke crowd is loud and clear, especially to the people singing karaoke: karaoke is not a priority that night or any other night.
Nico’s in Little Italy on Saturday night does karaoke right. First off karaoke takes place in the comfortable-size dinning room. The kitchen stays open so you can eat, drink, socialize and sing karaoke. The lights are usually kept low so the dinning room has the feel of a hip club. The present DJ is a people person. (I’ve known karaoke DJs who needed to check their attitude at the door). And there is only one television on mute off to the side. The lyrics for karaoke appear on a giant screen television that faces the audience allowing the audience to join in, which it does. For those who want to watch television, there are three televisions in the bar room.
Nico’s in Little Italy on Saturday night in the dinning room is where it’s at if you want karaoke. I was at karaoke at Nico’s last Saturday night; but unfortunately I won’t be back until the first Saturday in August.
Saturday night karaoke at Nico’s in Little Italy, be there or be square.
Hello, all my fans of erotic flash fiction who live all over the world! Guy Hogan is my name and writing gangbang stories is my game. I’m pushing the gangbang stories because I get more hits from people searching for gangbang stories than any other search term. I don’t just write any old kind of gangbang stories with no story line and full of profanity for the sake of profanity. I try to write gangbang stories that are character studies. It is my contention that the best gangbang stories are not about sex at all. They’re about characterization. Maybe this is why the gangbang stories on this site are so popular: the gangbang story as art and entertainment.
No, the Old Soldier won’t be at Nico’s again for karaoke until the first Saturday night in August. What a pity. I’ve been spending too much of my fun money at Armand’s in Little Italy. But don’t cry for me Pittsburgh. I’ll be back on my beat in Little Italy in about ten days.
Keep reading that erotic flash fiction. A different post from the archives is featured on the front page every day so be sure to come back again tomorrow.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the PittsburghFlashFiction, a new kind of girlie magazine of culture and sex.
