Hello, all you rock ‘n’ rollers! Welcome to my blog of culture for adults only. Well, I’m getting ready for karaoke at Sonny’s Tavern in Little Italy the first Sunday night in May. I haven’t sung karaoke at Sonny’s (just one time) in a few months and before that not in ages. And it’s right down the street, about a five minute walk from my apartment building. Plus Sonny’s is much more of a cultural hub than Nico’s in Little Italy where I’ve been singing karaoke the first Saturday night of every month for years now (but Nico’s is a twenty-minute walk from my apartment building–I’ve never liked walking back home from Nico’s at one o’clock in the morning).
Sonny’s has screened movies (about four or five years ago it screened two of my films from when I was a student and a member of the Pittsburgh Filmmakers around 15 years ago). And it has DJs and it books bands and now it has karaoke every Sunday night.
Very simply put, I would like to be a part of the scene at Sonny’s Tavern.
Of course, I’ve been doing my deep breathing, flexibility and stretching exercises and of course I’ll be singing songs by The Doors. I recently checked out two books from the library about The Doors and last night I even punched up Morrison Hotel on YouTube and listened to it, the first time I’ve probably heard the album since it was released in 1970.
So, as of today all systems are go. I should have my fun money by Friday. If things go well at Sonny’s the first Sunday night in May there will be no need for me to ever sing karaoke at Nico’s again (of course we all know that shit happens and things can change). I loved singing karaoke at Nico’s. It’s a great place for karaoke. The staff and clientele are great. It’s just that Nico’s is not the cultural hub that Sonny’s has become and Nico’s is too far away to be walking back from at one in the morning.
And I can’t afford to sing karaoke at Nico’s and Sonny’s. In the end it always comes down to money, doesn’t it?
Hail to Pitt!

PS Today it will be a sunny day in The ‘Burgh with a high around 70.
