Hello, hello, hello, all you rock ‘n’ rollers! Guy Hogan’s my name and blogging (and karaoke) is my game. It turned out to be another hot (90), but sunny day in Pittsburgh yesterday. I didn’t want to stay out too long in the hot sun, but I did walk from North Oakland to Bloomfield and back. I spent a couple of hours in the air-conditioned coolness of Armand’s, sipping beer, talking to a couple of regulars, watching game shows on the television at my end of the bar (I don’t own a television) and keeping an eye on sunny Liberty Avenue for women in shorts, short hemlines and yoga pants.
Karaoke at Sonny’s Tavern in Bloomfield on the first Sunday night of this month was a blast! The crowd was receptive. The DJ kept the music cranked up and I think my performance was a good example of karaoke as an art form. As a matter of fact I’ve decided to give up singing karaoke the first Saturday night of every month at Nico’s Recovery Room in Bloomfield and start to sing karaoke at Sonny’s the first Sunday night of every month. There are several reasons why karaoke at Sonny’s is a better fit for me.
- The music fills up the bar
- Sonny’s constantly has all kinds of entertainment including DJs, games, live music and karaoke
- Sonny’s is only two blocks from my apartment building
Don’t get me wrong. I still like Nico’s for karaoke; but for me that’s all Nico’s has to offer. Karaoke on the first Saturday night of every month was the only time I was there. I stop in at Sonny’s off and on because it’s so close. Well, I won’t start training for my next appearance at Sonny’s (the first Sunday night in August) for a few more days.
Hail to Pitt!
