Hello hello hello all you rock ‘n’ rollers and welcome to my little girlie magazine with this being my Tuesday blog post which means I just slapped a title on this post and sat down at my workstation and started to type without first doing notes or writing in my notebook or anything like that so that this is an experiment in “spontaneous writing” or “stream of consciousness writing” or whatever you want to call it but I like it!
I like it because I have no idea what I’m going to write until the words are on the page and it’s as if I’m discovering another person within which is kind of weird but maybe this makes more sense-it’s as if in my maturity I finally discovered I have a superpower I didn’t know about and so the words flow and flow and flow and this kind of writing does have a beat and rhythm all its own a kind of beat and rhythm like music which is why I see why Jack Kerouac loved bebop and jazz so much because he could hear the beat and rhythm in the music and that’s what he wanted in his writing, the beat and rhythm of bebop and jazz.
It’s a great theory of writing and even though I always knew that all prose has a beat and rhythm and poetry has a beat and rhythm spontaneous writing seems to make it easier to bring out the beat and rhythm of prose at least for me.
Then too besides diction and syntax there’s repetition to help you give flow to the prose you’re putting down on the page and I’m just happy that after all these years I’ve found something new about writing to get excited about all over again because if you don’t have passion for writing you may as well stop-that is not to say I’ve lost my passion for writing because I haven’t no way for writing is who I am and what I do. I’m saying my passion for writing is even greater now than it was before and for this I am a very happy man.
There is something else that I’m very passionate about and that is karaoke which probably comes from my youthful dream of singing rock ‘n’ roll for a living but unfortunately after pursuing that dream for maybe 20 years and being a frontman for several basement bands I finally had to accept that I would never be a frontman for a working rock ‘n’ roll band yet I did learn stage presence and how to project my voice by singing from the diaphragm and on the first Sunday night of next month which is November the 6th I will test once again my theory of karaoke as an art form at Sonny’s Tavern in Little Italy-that is not to say karaoke is not for fun because it most certainly is for fun I’m just saying it can be an art form too.
Speaking of Little Italy I will be in Little Italy today for a couple of beers at Armand’s in Little Italy because I got some unexpected fun money today and although my downtime away from Little Italy the last two weeks of every month is usually very productive and so far the last two weeks of this month have been very productive it is Little Italy where I find true inspiration for my work. So it’s back to Armand’s in Little Italy for a couple of hours and then I’ll buy a 12-pack of 12 ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon and I’ll come back home and put on some classical music low on the radio and take up my favorite position flat on my back on the sofa with two pillows under my weary head and I’ll sip beer and read my F. Scott Fitzgerald and my Jack Kerouac and my Amy Aimee who has her own category here at the PittsburgFlash just scan down the sidebar to Categories and then down to Good Pussy Bad Pussy.
