The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette continues to evolve and now it has a new format. Be sure to check out the front page to get the full effect.
The high will only be around 55 today in Pittsburgh, but it’s a beautiful, sunny day. The day fits my mood. The Old Soldier was so happy with the new format that he had to go for a nice walk, pick up some milk and pastries and then write this post about the new format.
I’m reading Gustavus Adolphus by Theodore Ayrault Dodge that I got from the public library a few days ago. Gustavus Adolphus was king of Sweden in the early part of the seventeenth century. Under his reign, Sweden became a great power.
Gustavus Adolphus is considered the father of modern warfare. No, the Old Soldier is not a warmonger; but I am in love with knowledge.
The king is known for his systematic approach to war, his genius for tactics (the immediate) and strategy (the long-term) and for his integration of pikemen, musketeers, cavalry and artillery into a smoothly operating highly trained and highly disciplined army built on speed and mobility. He re-organized Sweden’s finances, he made taxation more equitable and was a champion for fair treatment before the law for all classes of Swedes including the peasantry (lower-income folks like me). He was far ahead of his time in military and civilian affairs. (At least this is what Dodge claims. The Old Soldier is a bit of a cynic.)
What does any of this have to do with the new format of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette? Well, I am paying closer attention to my personal finances and I’m already seeing the benefits of that. I increased my monthly personal net revenues 15% just through taking care of some paper work that I should have taken care of last year. My personal finances have a direct impact on the magazine as you may well imagine; the magazine should start feeling the full impact of this by January.
And this is where the king has really helped me. I’m also trying to better integrate different subjects into a single online magazine for a more exciting, eclectic reading experience for my readers.
Now the Old Soldier has another person to add to the list of people who have had an impact on the format and the content of this magazine.
- Andy Warhol
- David Letterman
- Gustavus Adolphus
- Hue Hefner
- Lady Gaga
Keep reading and keep writing that erotic flash fiction.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
