The Old Soldier is about to hit the streets looking for ideas about life and writing. It’s a gray, snowy, late morning here in Pittsburgh. The high will be around 33 degrees and we are expecting several inches of snow mixed with rain (sleet) to fall later today.
I’ve already decided not to go to karaoke tonight at Nico’s in Little Italy. After I publish this post I’ll march (or if I’m lucky catch a bus) the eight blocks to Armand’s in Little Italy and sit at the bar and have a couple of draft beers. I’ll take two ball point pens and a notebook with me.
Joe should be behind the bar. I’ll watch television, shoot the breeze with Joe and try to come up with some ideas to blog about.
If you haven’t checked out the front page of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette recently, it has a new format. I think the new format is much more reader friendly. I got the idea for the new format by studying the front pages of several other online magazines. There are always good ideas floating around. You just have to search for them.
I’ve come up with a lot of good ideas just by hanging out at Armand’s. I’ve published several character sketches and short stories in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette that were based on people who come in to Armand’s.
Well, after I have a couple of draft beers at Armand’s I’ll bring home a cheap six-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and I’ll spent the rest of this snowy day in my small but warm apartment making phone calls, reading and working on the magazine.
I hope my visit to Armand’s will give me some good ideas to blog about.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
