It’s a cold afternoon in Pittsburgh, the high 19 degrees but it’s sunny outside. The Old Soldier has taken up his favorite position, flat on his back on the sofa with two fat pillows under his weary head as he scribbles on a piece of paper held against a three-ring notebook binder propped up against his raised legs. Classical music issues low from the radio as I sip on a 20 oz. plastic bottle of Pepsi Wild Cherry and munch on a small plate of Nabisco Ritz Crackers.
The Old Soldier is enjoying his retirement. I might make a beer run tomorrow to Armand’s in Little Italy no matter what the weather is; but for now there’s no place like home.
Baseball is in the air. The Pittsburgh Pirates play their first exhibition game against the New York Yankees today down in Florida. Needless to say, Pirates fans have high expectations for the team this season since last season the team produced a winning record for the first time in 21 years and made the playoffs.
So, the Old Soldier is gearing up to report on the new season.
And I have a special planned for next month. Lori Schafer is a regular contributor of erotic flash fiction to this magazine. Next month I will stick to the front page for one week her first interview, a new story and all of her previously published stories. You don’t want to miss the work of this talented writer and an intimate look into the world of Lori Schafer.
Explore the site. You will find everything from how to write flash fiction, crock pot cooking, karaoke as performance art, gangbang stories to commentaries on homelessness and the poisoning of the environment.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette, a blog of art, creative writing, culture, local interest and sex.
