A new day of blogging has begun! Hello, everyone and welcome to my little girlie magazine. You know the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette has a lot more going for it than just topless women.
My repeatedly stated immediate goal as a blogger is to push the pageviews of this blog beyond 30,000 pageviews every month. I’ve come close, but I’ve never done it in the two and a half years that this version of The Gazette has been online. Right now this blog averages between 25,000 to 29,000 pageviews every month.
What does any of this have to do with you? Well, if you’re a blogger and you want to get as many pageviews for your blog as you can, I figure my successes and misadventures as a blogger should be very instructive and contribute to your own success in some useful way.
Of course, moving this blog beyond 30,000 pageviews every month is only my immediate goal. My mid-range goal is to get 100,000 pageviews every month. What’s my long-range goal? For this blog to operate in the black; or in layman’s terms, to make me some money. Right now it’s costing me money to the tune of about $360.00 a year: hosting, domain name, backup and paying my contributors. I figure 100,000 pageviews every month will bring me in enough traffic that it will only take a very small percentage of that traffic buying subscriptions to Mr. Skin/Naked News, buying my book or making a donation for The Gazette to operate in the black.
But I digress…
There is one sure way to increase traffic to your blog. Add new content on a regular basis.
Here’s why. Google algorithms love new content. It’s that simple. The more often you blog the more often Google will crawl over your blog and the higher will be your page ranking for certain search terms which means more people will find your blog and that means the more traffic your blog will get and that means better conversion rates for your e-book or T-shirts or erotic films or whatever the hell it is that you’re selling. It’s all in the numbers.
I’m not guessing about this. As a full-time blogger (I’m retired so I can afford to be a full-time blogger) I make it my business to know about the business side of blogging and The Gazette is definitely a business. This morning I Googled: how do I get more pageviews for my blog?
I had several articles to choose from and I read several of them and they all said the same thing, add new content on a regular basis. I already knew this because I’ve been blogging for at least ten years and this advice fits in with my experience so it makes sense to me. What is a regular basis? I try to blog every day. It’s an ideal. I don’t always achieve the ideal; but as a rule I’ll put up 20 to 35 blog posts every month. My new goal is to publish at least 40 blog posts every month. I want to push through 30,000 pageviews every month and beyond.
