Hello hello hello hello hello, fans of the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette who live all over the world! The weather in The ‘Burgh today will be a mix of clouds and sunshine with the possibility of thunder showers and a high in the 80s.
How’s everyone doing?
I’m doing great! I have fun money in my pocket and I just came back from shopping at the dollar store (Dollar General) across the street.
I’ve talked to people who shop at dollar or discount stores and they tell me they spend more money at the dollar stores than what they spend at regulars stores. But you can save money at a dollar store if you do just two things.
- Buy Only What You Need
- Make A List (Mental Or On Paper) Of What You Need Before You Go Shopping And Stick To The List
These two things help me and I definitely save money shopping at the dollar store. The dollar store across the street carries all kinds of things. My biggest money saving purchase so far was a package of six pairs of calf-high good socks for only $6.00.
Now you know you can’t beat that with a stick!
And here’s another thing about how the dollar store helps me to save money. Say I buy laundry liquid at the dollar store and the laundry liquid is half the price it would cost at a regular store. It also is a smaller amount of laundry liquid. I’ve noticed that with the smaller amount I’m more careful about measuring how much laundry liquid I use and therefore the smaller amount goes further. If I had bought laundry liquid at the regular store it would have cost more and I would have gotten more; but I probably would’ve been more careless about using the laundry liquid from the regular store. I guess it’s just human nature to waste more when you have more.
