I served in Vietnam from 1965-1966. That’s why I call myself the Old Soldier. I was a 105 mm howitzer artilleryman.
The Vietnam War was a long time ago, but I still think about it just about every day. It helped to define me and my generation. When I go to the public library, I often check out books about other wars in history: WWII, The Civil War, The Seven Years War, The American Revolutionary War, The French Revolutionary War, The Greek and Persian Wars…
And of course there is usually one or two wars in the news at all times.
All of these wars bring me back to the war that I fought in as a teenager. I guess for me and my generation, The Vietnam War will always be there.
This is the Old Soldier reporting from Pittsburgh.
