I’m having a second beer at Hemingway’s. On one of the mute TVs above the bar a news broadcaster must be talking about the stock market. Running across the bottom of the screen is the announcement that the stock market has had its best day in over 75 years; that the market is over 10,000 again.
I need the economy to do well so that The Governor takes off the hiring freeze and I get called in before I lose my eligibility in April.
That’s all I want to do: have a good paying state goverment job with good benefits and security and weekends of and 3,000 readers a month for The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.
Is that too much to hope for?
