Are you a new writer? Still trying to find your voice and subject matter? Let me offer the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette as a possible source of inspiration.
Don’t let all the photos of naked women and all the content about sex fool you. This is definitely a blog about writing published by a writer for other writers.
The first thing you need to know about being a writer is that 99.9% of writers do not make a living from writing even if they have degrees in writing. That’s a fact. Research it. Those with degrees may make a living from copy editing, or tutoring or teaching composition, but they don’t make their living from their own writing. What this means is you better get a job to support your writing habit. Try to get a job you like.
Now I didn’t say you can’t make money from your own writing. You can. You can if you have the necessary traits that it takes to make money from your own writing. What are these traits?
- A Real Passion For Writing
- The Ability To Learn From Rejection
- A Knack For Self-promotion
- A Distinct Style
Most writers do not have all of these traits; or they don’t have all of them in the necessary proportions for success. Have I ever made money from my writing? Yes I have. And I’m putting myself in a position that with a little luck I’ll make more money from my writing. Because the trait that I have in abundance is perseverance.
So, let my little girlie magazine be a source of inspiration for you.
