The karaoke scene was awesome last night at Nico’s in Little Italy. Karaoke is supposed to start at 9:30 pm, but the DJ waited until 10:00 pm before he had enough singers to sing to a handful of people in the dinning room where karaoke takes place. I sang my first song to a very unreceptive small audience.
Then people began to show up, mostly young people, and they wanted to party. They cheered each other on. They sang the lyrics in unison. They clapped and danced. One young woman actually got up on a table and danced.
By the time I sang my second song the place was rockin’. The same thing with my third song. I sang “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place,” “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “House Of The Rising Sun,” all of the songs by The Animals.
Karaoke is alive and well on Saturday nights at Nico’s in Little Italy.
