The Old Soldier served in Vietnam when he was nineteen years old. I served in the 1st Cav (Airmobile) as a 105 mm howitzer artilleryman. My memory of specific incidents from Vietnam has been fading for years. I don’t think of Vietnam every day like I use to. Although, I still read my copy of Vietnam A History by Stanley Karnow several times a year. I’m in the process of re-reading it now.
Every Memorial Day brings Vietnam, what I remember of it, back to me. I was one of the lucky ones. Over 50,000 were not so lucky.
This is such a beautiful Memorial Day in Pittsburgh. I took a lazy walk of several blocks a while ago. The sun is shinning, it’s around 85 degrees and the Oakland/Shadyside area of Pittsburgh that I live in is full of well-kept green lawns, trees and hedges. The streets are empty. My walk was very relaxing.
Sports radio 93.7 FM The Fan is about to broadcast the Pirates at the New York Mets. The Old Soldier is going to chill out and listen to the game.
Keep reading and keep writing that erotic flash fiction. This is the Old Soldier reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction, a different kind of online erotic magazine. Here are some of my influences.
