The 72 hour count down before I’m back on my regular beat in Little Italy has begun. Hello hello hello, everybody everywhere! I’ve built up a powerful thirst these past few days. Hot chocolate and tea are fine when you’re broke, but it’s beer that allows me to live it up so I can write it down.
Well, it’s an overcast, chilly, rainy Sunday morning in Pittsburgh and the high will only be around 45. I probably won’t even leave my apartment today. I’ll listen to football on the radio as I watch silent films on YouTube and munch on Ritz Crackers and sharp cheddar cheese and raw garlic and when I get tired of that I’ll maintain my favorite position flat on my back on the sofa with two pillows under my weary head and I’ll read some Hemingway or Dick Francis or Tim Gautreaux and listen to classical music low on the radio.
And I’ll probably listen to rock ‘n’ roll on YouTube, too; there’s karaoke at Sonny’s Tavern the first Sunday night in November. Then there is always a little spot cleaning of the apartment I can do like the bathroom floor and surfing the web and working on the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. In other words I’ll be the lazy bum that I am. Hell, I’m retired.
But seriously folks, I do get some practical things done for the mundane details of my life provide a lot of the content for this blog, especially when I’m not hanging out in Little Italy. Remember, the first blogs were just personal online journals or online diaries before they morphed into magazines and news outlets and the advertising arms of businesses. The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette therefor is not only a magazine, but it is still my diary and as a diary you will find in it what I feel and what I think and what I do even if I lead a pretty ordinary life. Editing and publishing a blog of culture for adults only is not as glamorous as you may think it is. I can’t wait for that first beer at Armand’s in Little Italy in about 72 hours.

PS It is now around 10:00 a.m. in Pittsburgh and there is NFL football on the radio. The Cleveland Browns are playing the Minnesota Vikings in London. You know you can’t beat that with a stick! I wonder if Twitter is streaming the game…
