Hello, hello, hello, all you rock ‘n’ rollers! It’s your favorite editor/publisher of Pittsburgh’s premiere online magazine of culture for adults only reporting for duty. Since I’m sleepless here in Pittsburgh (it’s like 4:30 a.m.), I thought I may as well get up and do some blogging.
Why am I sleepless in Pittsburgh this morning? I couldn’t figure out what I was going to blog about today; and my pageviews for this month have been steadily slipping. As of this morning I’m only averaging 830 pageviews every day for August 2016. That in itself is enough to keep me awake. Why are my pageviews slipping? Why are they slipping? Why are they slipping? Did Google change its algorithms again? The high for this month was 871 pageviews every day…
Well, one way to deal with a temporary bout of writer’s (blogger’s) block is to change your routine. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel I bought at the West End Book Exchange in Little Italy earlier this month by a local author and now it’s back to the main branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (the public library) here in Oakland for some more (free) reading material. A blogger/writer has to constantly feed his or her mind.
Of course, I do a lot of reading online. I’ve always been interested in politics, but the present presidential campaign has made me a political junkie. I’m constantly scanning online outlets like Politico, The Huffington Post, The Hill, Slate, Salon, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The National Review and other outlets for any new morsels about the spectacle unfolding before the American voter. And it’s a strange thing. This presidential election may have made me a political junkie, but my gut tells me politics does not belong in the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette. I’ve blogged about the poisoning of the environment in the pages of this girlie magazine. I’ve blogged about homelessness in Pittsburgh. I’ve blogged about student debt. Politics just doesn’t seem to fit.
Oh, for a New York minute I did publish a few blog posts about politics. Then I deleted them. I hope I got all of those motherfuckers.
Hail to Pitt!
This is Guy Hogan sleepless in Pittsburgh. Sorry, no naked women for this blog post. Today there will be a mix of clouds and sunshine in The ‘Burgh with a high around 80 and a 20% chance of rain. If you are not already a regular reader of this girlie magazine, now would be a great time to sign up for your free email subscription today.
