It’s a lovely, sunny day in The ‘Burgh today. The high will be around 80. I even did some window washing this morning.
Hello, hello, hello, all you rock ‘n’ rollers all over the world! Welcome to my blog of commentary, culture and erotica.
I fell asleep on the sofa last night (flat on my back with two fat pillows under my weary head) watching the silent film classic Orphans of the Storm directed by D. W. Griffith (he of The Birth of a Nation) and staring Lillian and Dorothy Gish while I listened to Pirates baseball on the radio. Why am I addicted to silent films? For me, silent films are the perfect analogy for flash fiction. Each art form must imply much of its story and still make perfect sense at the same time. It’s the same reason why I’m hooked on radio. I refuse to get another television. I get so much more blogging and writing done without a television while silent films and radio inspire me to blog and write. And I know why. Silent films and radio force me to use my imagination to complete the images of silent films and the words of the radio. Television doesn’t challenge the imagination like silent film and radio.
Hey, that’s just me. You don’t have to throw your television out the window to be a flash fiction writer.
Well, I finally cleared up those 16 broken links on my site. Now I need to upgrade this WordPress blogging platform to the newest version; but I’m going to wait until I get my military pension on the first because one time I upgraded The Gazette and it disappeared from my screen and no matter what I did I couldn’t punch it back up. That was a terrible feeling. My life passed before my eyes. I had to pay my host (HostGator) a small fee to put The Gazette back on my screen. HostGator backs up The Gazette every 24 hours. I really do need to back up The Gazette myself. I keep putting it off…putting it off…Putting it off…
I have to do it next month for sure. Discipline 007. Discipline…
There’s a real possibility that I’ll get some fun money this week. If I do I’ll be back on my beat in Little Italy at Armand’s drinking beers and eating peanuts and thinking deep thoughts about life and writing.
This is Guy Hogan reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.
Hail to Pitt!
PS The Pirates won last night. The team needs to win only one more game to make the playoffs for the third year in a row. There are 11 games left in the regular season.
Let’s Go Bucs!
