I scribbled this post in my notepad (I’m old school) as I sat at the bar in Armand’s in Little Italy. Summer’s almost gone, but it’s a sunny day in The ‘Burgh today and the high will be around 80. Liberty Avenue is bright with sunshine. The Old Soldier is at peace with the world; although the world is not at peace with itself. I’m a news junkie so I know. I’ve been to Saturday night karaoke at Nico’s in Little Italy twice already this month and I plan to be there for karaoke this coming Saturday night. I’m getting better at making my fun money last longer every month.
The Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette is lookin’ pretty good even if I do say so myself and I do say so myself. Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I’ve been able to give my little girlie magazine a more professional look which has contributed to a growing readership which hopefully will contribute to increased revenues which will allow me to publish 12 stories by writers (one each month) in 2016 instead of just four. If I publish just four, The Gazette will break even next year; but I don’t want to publish just four stories by contributors next year. But I don’t want to continue to take a financial lose publishing the magazine, either. The Gazette is a business just like any other business.
The Gazette now averages around 8,000 visitors every month. I don’t know when the magazine will hit critical mass and start making a profit. Maybe it will hit critical mass at 10,000 visitors every month or 12,000 visitors every month or 14,000 visitors every month or…
Well, I’ll post this when I get back to my humble apartment. Now I’m just going to drink beer and eat peanuts and think deep thoughts about life and writing and how to continue to grow the readership of my little girlie magazine.
