The sun is out and the high today in Pittsburgh will be around 77 degrees. Hello, fans of erotic flash fiction who live all over the world! Guy Hogan is my name and sexy flash fiction is my game.
I just got finished scanning the latest edition of the PittsburghCityPaper, the print newspaper (it can also be found online) that covers the politics and culture of the Pittsburgh area and that comes out every Wednesday. The PittsburghCityPaper is a success in anybody’s book when it comes to a local newspaper. The paper is free, but it is bursting with ads. That’s how the paper pays its bills and I counted over 40 staffers on its payroll. The paper is a success story I would like to emulate; but first I have to greatly increase the page views of my little girlie magazine before I can make any money from ads.
A new Dollar Store will soon open up in my neighborhood of Oakland. And the store is big. It’s across the street from 4730 Centre Avenue in North Oakland. Usually, nothing in a Dollar Store is actually a dollar; but bargains can be had if you search for them.
But I digress.
One of the things I like about the PittsburghCityPaper is how well it covers politics and culture in the Pittsburgh area.
Right now the hot local political news is about the ride-sharing companies Lyft and Uber who are a challenge to the traditional cab companies. Lyft and Uber have some high-profile investors backing them up and Mayor Bill Peduto is an advocate for the ride-sharing companies. PCP is good at covering these kinds of stories. The two ride-sharing companies have gone to court to try to win their fight for survival against the Public Utility Commission.
Then the paper has movie, theater, book, painting, dance, music and restaurant reviews in nearly every issue. And you can see why I read the paper every week. Now there is no way the Old Soldier can compete with the PCP. But I think there is definitely still a place on the Internet for a one-man daily magazine of adult entertainment with a focus on hyper-local coverage of Oakland and my favorite bars Nico’s and Armand’s in Little Italy.
Keep reading that sexy flash fiction.
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the PittsburghFlashFiction, a magazine of culture and sex as art and entertainment.
