Hello, world! Welcome to my online literary magazine for adventurous adults. I’m known as the Old Soldier because I’m a Vietnam War veteran. I also write flash fiction. I’m retired and a full-time blogger. I live in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the same neighborhood that Andy Warhol grew up in. Andy Warhol’s career as an artist has inspired me to try to publish a different kind of magazine, a literary magazine for adults. I got my MFA from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006.
This online literary magazine has been years in the making. I won’t bore you with the sordid details. Let me just say that my dream of publishing a literary magazine of commentary, pop culture and sex as art and entertainment has finally come true.
I like to think of the PittsburghFlashFiction as an original, as a work of art in progress. What other magazine in Pittsburgh covers the karaoke scene at Nico’s in Little Italy on a regular basis? What other magazine in Pittsburgh reports from Armand’s in Little Italy on a regular basis? And what other magazine in Pittsburgh publishes the erotic flash fiction of talented writers from all over the world?
It is this hyper-local and international blend that helps to set my little literary magazine for adults apart.
One day you may read a commentary on the Veterans Administration Hospital System scandal and the next day read a commentary on everyday women doing their first porn videos and the next day read an article on writing effective dialogue for flash fiction.
You just never know.
I encourage you to make the PittsburghFlashFiction part of your daily routine. Help me spread the word about the magazine. Follow or take out a free email subscription today. Discover just how interesting a literary magazine can be.
