I really didn’t become a regular reader of Playboy Magazine until I came back home from the Vietnam War. I knew two things: I had to be a writer and I didn’t want a regular 9 to 5 job.
One of the publications I sent my short stories to was Playboy Magazine. As a young man and as a writer, I was attracted to the magazine because of the glossy photos of young women in different stages of undress on the cover; and because of the great content inside. Playboy Magazine was really a very good read.
It published great interviews with the movers and shakers in all fields of endeavor. It was full of hard hitting investigative journalism. It published the fiction of writers with international reputations. And of course it was full of naked women. Playboy Magazine was an original.
Oh, I never did sale a story to Playboy Magazine; and I haven’t bought a Playboy Magazine in years, but that doesn’t mean all the years that I tried to sale the magazine a story were wasted years.
Hue Hefner, the Old Soldier salutes you!
This is the Old Soldier reporting for the Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette.
PS And I was impressed by how many women read Playboy Magazine, too.
