Yes, the Old Soldier believes poetry and flash fiction stories go together. I actually taught poetry for one semester to undergraduates at the University of Pittsburgh between 2003 to 2006 while I was working on my MFA at Pitt.
To be perfectly honest, I had no real love for poetry until after I graduated in 2006. I’d been obsessed with flash fiction stories for years and then after Pitt I discovered haiku poetry.
I was fascinated with how flash fiction stories and haiku poetry could both say so much in so few words. When I decided to publish a blog about flash fiction stories and sex, poetry seemed a natural fit for the blog, too.
And like the stories on this blog, I like to publish poetry about sex, too.
Welcome to the poetry and the stories of one of the most exciting blogs about writing on the Internet.
A Walk Through Little Italy
The Old Soldier just came back from a shopping expedition to Little Italy. It’s not noon yet. I picked up some Ramen Noodles, an onion, a green pepper and some Italian sausage to cook in my crock pot for spaghetti sauce.
There weren’t many people on the streets in Little Italy. It’s a warm, partly sunny day; but I always have to remind myself when I’m up and about in the middle of the day that most people are at work or in school. I’m retired. That’s why I can blog full-time.
